Eric's grandma is in the hospital right now. She was having some issues and they think she might have had a tiny stroke. Eric and his brother are out of town having a boys weekend so I bucked up and went to see her today during lunch. Generally, old people make me nervous. Generally, hospitals make me nervous. Today I had to put all my fears aside so that I could try to make someone who is suffering feel a little better.
I went to CVS and got a get well card. I also got some chocolates and a picture frame to put a picture of Eric and I in. I ignored the butterflies in my stomach all the way up the hospital elevator. I bravely found her room and went in to say Hi. She did smile when she saw me which was nice but things went down hill from there. The nurse came in and started taking her temperature and her blood pressure. Just then, grandma went in to a little seizure and her eyes rolled back in her head! I started getting weak in the knees. Then she started yakking. If it wasn't for the nurse coming in to explain to me that they were moving grandma to the Critical Care Unit -- I'd have FOR SURE passed out on the floor. After that I quickly said my good-byes and hit the road. I could not get on or off that elevator fast enough.
After I left, and collected myself, I called Eric to report the news. Then I called his Mom who assured me that I got adda-girl points for going to visit her alone.
I definitely took one for the team.
