Work Trip

So I'm on my first work trip since having Carly. On one hand it's really exciting to be able to travel for work again but on the other it's HARD to be away from my family. It's not just Carly either -- we lose her for several nights at a time to Grandma Avis quite often -- but Eric too! My whole world is back in Alexandria and I'm living off of travel soap and hotel coffee.

My trip here was an adventure to say the least. Luckily I was traveling with a work buddy because I think I would have had a complete melt down. Have I told you how I don't do SLEEPLESS? Last night I got on an 8PM flight to Kansas City only to spend an hour flying around the city because it was fogged in. Then they diverted us to St. Louis, along with hundreds of other planes, and we were stranded. Only one hotel room in the city so co-worker and I shared a room. Again -- glad I like her! We got about 2 and a half hours of sleep and then got up and got on a 7am flight. Our second attempt at getting in to the fogged in Kansas City almost ended up the exact same way -- but this time we ended up in Omaha, NE. We gassed up there and prayed that the fog would lift enough for us to eventually make our way back to KC. If not, we were driving 3 hours to get here instead. They announced that there were zero flights out of Omaha today available. All booked. THANK GOD we finally got to come back and land in KC. I missed my morning meeting and ended up staying in my hotel room most of the day on an online training course. The day was pretty much shot. Tomorrow I'm playing catch up here, attending a few meetings, then heading home on a 7:10pm flight that is supposed to get in around 11pm. I've heard though that this is a flight that is almost always delayed. Yipee! Will I ever see my family again?

As of now I am not rested but I am showered. Co-worker and I are leaving for dinner soon and I plan to treat myself to something fancy. I deserve it. I feel like a soilder. I've never had such crappy travel luck (at least that I was old enough to remember) in all my life, and as a military brat, that says a lot.

I miss my family and I can't wait to come home and see my little baby and her crazy bedhead on Friday morning.
