Curt's Birthday

A year and a half ago my good friend Curt died of Pancreatic Cancer. Long story short -- the whole thing sucked. But I have fond memories of Curt and I miss him all the time! I thought I would honor him today, on his 46th birthday, by mentioning all the things that remind me of him. These are the things that I see from day to day that make the memory of Curt so fresh in my mind -- it's like he's always with me.

-His most prized possession. His son. A charming little boy -- just like his Dad.

-The sweatpants that I wear every day after work. I stole them from him while he was at his sickest. I know that even though he couldn't respond at that time with an eye roll like he usually would he was not surprised to see me wearing/stealing them.

-Fajitas

-His red car, which I think was a Pontiac. It was never my style but it was VERY well taken care of. For some reason it always made me giggle.

-White tennis shoes and bad ties. He wore white tennis shoes and bad ties until Holly made him stop. I think he felt slightly harassed about these items but he needed to know. It was ALWAYS fun to pick on him about his clothes or his style. Being much older than Holly and I he was an easy target.

-The history channel. He loved it and I played it for him when I was on nurse duty.

-The color dark purple. It's the color of the Pancreatic Cancer ribbon. I made a gazillion of them when he was going through treatments and stuff. I have magnets and tree ornaments. For a while I think I felt that if I could just buy all the Pancreatic Cancer Awareness ribbons up it would save Curt's life. It didn't but I still love having the ribbons around to remind me of him.

and last but not least..

-The logitec webcam that I "borrowed" from him 5 years ago. =) He was very giving.

...anyway...I miss Curt and I wish he was here so that I could tease him about being an old fart.

Happy Birthday Old Man!

Happy Birthday, Curt! That was really nice and beautifully written (with a bit of Jess comedy in the mix).
